Everything You Need to Know About Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande-Butera is an American pop singer/songwriter and actress. Born June 23, 1993, to parents Edward Butera, a graphic designer by profession and Joan Grande, a communication specialist, Arianna is a native of Boca Raton, Florida. Her parents are of New York-Italian descent. Her name, it is said, was inspired by Princess Orianna, a character from Felix the Cat: The Movie. Arianna got her first taste of show business when got an opportunity to perform with the Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre, playing the role of the lead character, Annie. As a kid, she also performed in musicals, namely The Wizard of Oz and Beauty and the Beast.
In 2001, at age 8, while holidaying with her family on a cruise ship, she sang at the karaoke lounge room, where she got noticed by famed Cuban-American pop singer, Gloria Estefan, who encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Later that year, she got to perform with South Florida's Philharmonic Orchestra, Florida Sunshine Pops and the Symphonic Orchestra. She made her television debut singing the national anthem for The Florida Panthers. Arianna's parents split up when she just nine years old. Arianna has an older half-brother who is a producer and entertainer. Post her parent's breakup; she grew close to her maternal grandmother, Marjorie Grande, who took responsibility for her upbringing.
Early TV Career
In 2009, Arianna got her first big break in her acting career when she was cast in a television series, Victorious on Nickelodeon. The show was a big hit for the network. The show's success made Arianna a teen idol overnight. Soon after the show ended its first season, Arianna began focusing on her music and hired a voice coach, Eric Vetro. She began doing a cover version of pop stars she admired the most, i.e., Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.
She recorded her renditions and uploaded them on YouTube, where it was spotted by a record company executive, and soon she has a recording contract. During this period, she recorded her first single, "Give It Up," which featured on the soundtrack of Victorious: Music From The Hit TV Show in August 2011. Later that year, she lends her voice for an animated TV series, Winx Club and a Spanish animated film, Snowflake, The White Gorilla.
In September 2013, Arianna, after having worked on it for three long years, released her debut album, Yours Truly. The album sold over 138,000 copies within the first week of its release. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 charts. The album went platinum in 2016, selling over a million copies in the US alone. Arianna cited Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Amy Winehouse as her influences for the album's musical genre and vocal style. The following month popular music magazine Billboard ranked Arianna 4th on the Music's Hottest Minors of 2013 list, which featured all artists under the age of 21.
Later that year she won the New Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards. Arianna put out her second album, My Everything in August 2014. Its lead single “Problem” featured Australian rapper Iggy Azalea and peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. In 2015, Arianna announced The Honeymoon Tour to further promote the album, with shows scheduled in Asia, Europe, North and South America. The following year, Arianna released two more studio albums to a moderate reception.
Awards and Popularity
Out of the four studio albums that Arianna put out, three went platinum. Arianna has received a total of twelve Billboard Music Awards nominations, six Grammy nominations, won three MTV Europe Music Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards and three American Music Awards. Arianna has also bagged the Favourite TV Actress during Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Award. In 2018, Grande was named Woman of the Year by Billboard. By December 2018, Arianna had over 30 million YouTube subscribers, 140 million followers on Instagram and held the 11th most followed account on Twitter. Her influence on social media and teen culture cannot be undermined. Currently, the American actress and pop sensation are valued at $60 million.
