Alanis Morissette Celebrity LifeWhoa! Alanis Morissette was vouched to be one of the alternative rocks best female vocalists during the 1990s though she started her career as a child actress.
Loved for her trademark smile and long silky hair she became a superstar with her hard work, common sense, and above all, talent.
Born in Canada in the year 1974 Alanis started learning piano at a tender age of 6 and even composed her first song by the age of 9.
Garnering a golden opportunity to appear in the kid’s series ‘You Can’t Do That on Television’ on the famous Nickelodeon channel when she was only ten years old this budding talent did not waste her earnings on fashion or food but used it for releasing her first single ‘Fate Stay With Me.’ Such was the aspirations of Alanis Morissette!
Alanis’ love for music compelled her to focus on her musical career soon after leaving the TV series and she signed a music publishing contract at the adolescent age of 14.
This contract helped her release a double dance-pop album ‘Alanis’ and ‘Now Is The Time’ which made her famous and fetched her a Juno Award in the ‘Most Promising Female Vocalist of the Year’ category too.
But it must be mentioned here that Morissette’s fame was restricted within her country. This persuaded her to move to Los Angeles where she collaborated with the famous songwriter-producer, Glen Ballard.
The duo focused on making quality alternative rock music which resulted in ‘Jagged Little Pill’ that was released in the year 1995 with the help of Madonna’s label.
Alanis considered this to be her ‘authentic’ debut as this album topped various charts worldwide making her popular globally.
One of the singles in the album ‘Jagged Little Pill’, ‘You Oughta Know’ was applauded beyond words by radio stations and music production houses garnering it a multi-platinum status and sending it to the Top music list.
Many other singles released for the album kept it in the Top 10 list for more than a year and this is not a small feat to achieve. The album was the sole reason that Morissette won 4 Grammy Awards.
First is always the best and this is absolutely true in Morissette’s case as well.
Though many of her successive albums became super hits none could surpass or even match the success of ‘Jagged Little Pill.’
But Alanis did not disappoint her fans when she released ‘Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie’ in 1998 which garnered the highest first-week sales by a female artist.
None of her albums and singles in the following years achieved the success attained by her releases in the 1990s.
This made Alanis take up an acoustic tour of her first debut album in 2005. This same album was even an inspiration for a stage musical that saw the light of the day after more than a decade in 2018.
Alanis released ‘Havoc and Bright Lights’ in 2012 two years after giving birth to her child and aptly this album focused on motherhood. In late 2019, she released her first single of 2020, ‘Such Pretty Forks in The Road’.
Passion for Acting
Before making it big in the music industry Alanis participated in ‘Star Search,’ an American reality game show.
But unfortunately, she lost in the first round which never deterred her from achieving the greater feat in her singing career.
Morissette even has a couple of acting gigs to her credibility- she appeared in the movie ‘Anything for Love’ in the year 1993 and in ‘Dogma’ in the year 1999.
She even acted in several TV series including ‘Sex and The City,’ ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ and ‘Nip/Tuck.’ Alanis has fought through several hardships and emotional disturbances but emerged successfully through all attaining a stable position for herself as a singer/performer.
