Cameron Heyward Celebrity Life

On May 6th, 1989, Cameron Heyward was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He was a student at Peachtree Ridge High School in Georgia and was on their football team as a defensive player.

He was even named Georgia’s 7th best player and the nation's 13th best defensive tackle.

All this in high school well before his career took off, no wonder he is so successful today. Not to mention he is the son of infamous Craig “Ironhead” Heyward, who played 11 years in the NFL as a fullback.
At Ohio State

In 2007, Heyward joined Ohio State, playing for their team the Buckeyes, and in his freshman year was named All American for his 30 tackles, 2 passes, and 2 sacks.

He recorded 36 tackles as a sophomore, 10 as a junior, and 48 as a senior.

At the end of his college career, he had 162 total tackles. As a junior, he almost opted to enter the NFL draft, but changed his mind and completed his senior year with the Buckeyes instead.

After graduating from Ohio State in 2011, Heyward joined the NFL draft and was selected by the Pittsburg Steelers in the first round as many had predicted.

He signed a four-year contract with the Steelers worth $6.70 million, with an additional bonus of $3.37 million. He played in all 16 games for his rookie season and recorded a forced fumble and 1.0 sack.

Personal Best

In 2013, Heyward recorded his personal best of 13 starts and had 5 takedowns. From then on he only got better, recording 7.5 sacks in 2014. In 2015 Cameron Heyward’s contract with the Steelers was extended for another 6 years.

In the same year, he was made defensive team captain and was then renamed captain in 2016 for another season. He was also one of the highest-paid athletes in 2016 with a whopping $21 million in earnings.

Unfortunately, due to a pectoral injury, he was placed on the Reserve List that year and missed most of the season and postseason.
In 2017, despite his injury from the previous year, he was made captain again, started 15 games and recorded a career-best of 12.0 sacks and 30 solo tackles.

2018 once again saw Heyward being named as captain for the fourth consecutive year. The 2018 season ended with him achieving 29 individual tackles, 8.0 sacks, and 18 QB hits.

As of 2019, Heyward has the second-highest recorded sacks in the history of Steeler defensive linemen. He has won many an award in his career so far, including the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2015 and 2018.

His other accolades include ‘The Chief Award’ in 2014, and he has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week on more than one occasion.

Cameron put his winnings to good use, opening the Heyward House Foundation in 2015. The foundation aims at helping children in need, those who are sick or are struggling financially.

He did so because of his own battle with asthma as a child and also because of the devastating loss of his father who passed away in 2006, which taught Cameron firsthand, the struggles of single parenthood.

In 2018 he also started ‘Craig’s Closet’ in honor of his father, who began college with just a single suit.

The program aims to help young men in Pittsburg who cannot afford proper attire, by providing them with shirts, ties, and other garments.

In 2013 Cameron married his college sweetheart, Allie Schwarzwalder, the couple share 3 children together. They welcomed their newest family member recently, their daughter Caia, in August 2019.

Cameron Heyward has had a highly illustrious career so far, and 2020 will no doubt bring even more good fortune.
