Cheryl Ray Tiegs was born on the 25th of September 1947 in the city of Breckenridge, Minnesota. She is popularly known for her career as an American model and a fashion designer.

Among all the models that America has had over the years, Cheryl is described to be the first American supermodel.
 
Cheryl’s career began in the year 1952 when she posed for a bathing suit and swimsuit manufacturer Cole located in California.

This shot of her appeared in the popular Seventeen magazine and was regarded to be the start of her journey as a model.

Though she had enrolled in the California State University to continue her further studies, she soon left college in her junior year to continue her career as a model.

Cheryl Tiegs started her career at the age of 17 when one of the editorial staff of Glamour magazine came across her bathing suit photoshoot of Cole.

She was bypassed from the formal meetings and the hiring process and straight away booked for a shoot for Glamour magazine cover.

In the same year, she also appeared in magazines like Elle and Seventeen. She also made an appearance in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar.


Among some of the achievements that Cheryl accomplished throughout her time as a model, she was the first model to be featured twice on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue magazine.

She raised her profile as a model when she posed in a fishnet swimsuit in 1978. In the same year, Tiegs appeared on the cover of Time magazine three times and she appeared on the cover of People magazine four times.

The biggest contract ever to be received by any model at that time was received by Cheryl when she signed a $1.5 million two-year contract with ‘Cover Girl’ cosmetics.

 
Among her other achievements as a model, she was featured in the 40th anniversary of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue’s Hall of Fame version.

She was also included in the “50 Most Beautiful People” list of 2008’s People magazine. She was also featured in the “100 Hottest Women of All Time” by Men’s Health Magazine in the year 2012.

Fashion Designing Career

In the year 1980, Cheryl launched her clothing and accessories brand named Sears. This was considered to be the first retail venture that was pursued by any supermodel.

By the year 1989, she had already made nearly $1 billion in sales. Due to her success in the retail world, she was featured in TIME magazine’s cover story “Sassy Sears”.

Her clothing line and her modeling career earned her to be created as a doll as a part of the “Real Model Collection”.

Cheryl also established her line of sportswear and got into the line of developing wigs and hair accessories for the brand Revlon.

African Expedition

Cheryl Tiegs met Peter Beard who was a photographer in the year 1978 at New York City. They traveled to Kenya together for him to do a photographic expedition and to investigate the destruction of African wildlife. In the year 1981 Tiegs and Beard got married.

The journey of Tiegs and Beard was featured in the Emmy-winning episode of ABC’s The American Sportsman.

The title of the episode was “Africa: End of the Game”. Tiegs and Beard traveled back and forth from Africa between 1978 and 1982.

Due to her constant involvement with African expeditions, she was given the cover story title of “Cheryl Tiegs: The New African Queen” by LOOK magazine. In 1980, she was also featured on the cover of Outside magazine.


Personal Life
Cheryl Tiger has been married four times. She has three sons and a daughter. Her twins, Theo and Jaden were delivered through surrogacy during her marriage with Rod Stryker.

Tiegs is also on the board of the Earth Conservative Corps. Among her other personal achievements, she has a bibliography titled The Way to Natural Beauty.
