Career Success

Moretz had her big break in Hollywood when she got the role of Hit-Girl in the movie Kick-Ass. This was in 2010. The movie was based on the popular comic book series, and Moretz trained with the stunt crew of Jackie Chan before filming started. She insisted on doing her own stunts and filmed completely on location.

There was some controversy surrounding the fact that she was too young to play a role in a film with such a fair amount of violence. The film was critically acclaimed, but some critics gave it only one star.

Nonetheless, they admitted that Moretz had substantial “screen presence and appeal”. By the age of 13, and with two more films under her belt, she was known as the “busiest actress in Hollywood”.

In 2011, she acted in a crime thriller. In the same year, she was cast as Isabelle in Martin Scorsese’s Hugo. This was the adaptation of the book, The Invention of Hugo Cabret. It was nominated for eleven Academy Awards. In 2012, Moretz acted in Dark Shadows, a film by Tim Burton, starring Johnny Depp.

She was drawn to playing roles portraying darker characters - when asked why, she explained that these roles offered something of a challenge, given that she led such a happy life.

In 2014, she acted in a play, The Library, directed by Steven Soderbergh. She acted in If I Stay in 2014, and though the film got mixed reviews, everyone agreed that the acting was simply great. In 2016, Moretz acted in The 5th Wave - her acting was described as nothing short of compelling.

From 2015, Moretz has worked in significant films such as The Modern Ocean, with stars like Anne Hathaway, Daniel Radcliffe, and Keanu Reeves. She was picked to play the lead role in The Little Mermaid but dropped the idea later. She explained that she wanted to “slow down and reassess her life”.

While everyone thought she was on a hiatus from acting, she denied such an idea, stating that she wanted to be more choosy about her roles.

She also mentioned a desire to produce - mainly television series. In 2017, she acted again, in the crime drama film, November Criminals. In 2018, she acted in the film, The Miseducation of Cameron Post, a drama.

In the same year, she acted in Greta, with Isabelle Huppert. With her acting career on a roll, she is satisfied with the roles she’s getting - in December 2020, she will be seen in Tom and Jerry.
