Chris Hemsworth  Celebrity Life

Chris Hemsworth was born to Leonie Hemsworth, an English teacher, and Craig Hemsworth, a social-services counselor on August 11th, 1983.

Hemsworth is an Australian actor most well-known for his role as Thor in the Marvel franchise of the same name. As of 2020, he is one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood.

Professional Biography

Hemsworth began his acting debut taking the helm as King Arthur in the fantasy series Guinevere Jones in 2002. He was then thrust into the soap opera genre with the series, Neighbours, as Jamie Kane.

He gained renown as a solid newcomer known for his charismatic good looks and charm on the soap opera stage.
His contract with Neighbours was very limited, and he left to enjoy further soap opera stardom in the series, Home and Away, where he starred as Kim Hyde.

He enjoyed a long-lasting role that lasted nearly 200 episodes and became one of the highest-rated dramas in Australia.

His performance in Home and Away made him a household name in Australia, but Hemsworth lamented the fact that the simple scripts left him unable to explore his full range as an actor and limited the amount of respect he garnered as an artist.

He left after nearly 200 episodes and was cast in the J.J. Abrams production of Star Trek, where he took on the mantle of George Kirk where he impressed notable critics with his first big role.

His next performance in A Perfect Getaway saw him in an intimidating performance as a thuggish backpacker that was well-received by critics yet again.

He used his improved position in the industry to be selective about scripts as he wanted to avoid being typecast as a romantic lead and wanted to embrace serious roles moving forward.

He left for the United States to perform in the movie Ca$h alongside Sean Bean. The Hollywood Reporter noted that Hemsworth was one of the fastest-growing Hollywood actors on the scene, almost being pushed into the A list with his arrival in the US.

With a solid portfolio now behind him, Hemsworth’s breakthrough role came in the form of the Marvel movie, Thor.

He gained 20 pounds of muscle for his role as the God of Thunder and it became one of the most successful movies in 2011. Thor grossed $450 million worldwide.

He would reprise his role of Thor in The Avengers, which would gross more than a billion worldwide and cement him as one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood.

Thor’s sequel, Thor: The Dark World would also be a commercial success.
Next, he returned to his roots as a romantic lead in Snow White and the Huntsman where he starred alongside Kirsten Stewart.

Huntsman saw mixed reviews for his performance but gained commercial success regardless.
He then took on a much more serious role in the sports drama, Rush. Rush won several accolades and critics praised Hemsworth for yet another strong performance.

Unfortunately, his next role in Blackhat saw him terribly miscast as a hacker, and despite a strong performance alongside Viola Davis, Blackhat was poorly received despite Hemsworth pushing himself to deliver in a role atypical of him.

His reprisal of Thor in Avengers: Age of Ultron saw him win a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Movie Actor. Age of Ultron grossed $1.4 billion and became the fifth highest-grossing movie of all time.

As of 2020, Hemsworth’s net worth stands at $90 million.
