Early Life

Born on May 14, 1986, Clay Matthews is an American outside linebacker. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, he is the son of a former football player, Clay Matthews Jr.

He hails from a family of football players, like his grandfather, Clay Matthews Sr. was also a professional football player. Clay Matthews has a brother, Casey Matthews, who is also a renowned linebacker.

He did his schooling from Agoura High School, California. He was very interested in the game from childhood and started playing football for Agoura Chargers, the high school football team.

Because of his physical underminings, his father was not very hopeful of him. As a junior, he was declined to play for the high school team. But when he entered the senior class, he started showing the physical abilities required for football.

Clay Matthews attended the University of Southern California, where he got the chance to play for the Trojans.

It was his dream which came true as he played for the Trojans from 2004 to 2008. As he entered the university as a student-athlete, he did not get enough games to play.

During off-seasons, he started working on his physique and stamina, which proved to be very beneficial for him as he was awarded the USC Co-Special Teams Player of the Year in 2006 and 2007.

On April 25, 2009, Green Bay Packers selected Matthews in their 26th overall selection for the 2009 draft. The news shocked some analysts because they were not expecting Matthews to get selected because of his limited university experience.

He started his NFL career in 2009 with Green Bay Packers and performed very well in his first season.

In week 13, he was awarded the NFC defensive player of the Week award. Matthews became the first rookie to have been selected in the Pro Bowl for GBP.

During the 2010 NFL season, he took a different approach for the game. His hard work paid off, and he was named the All-Pro team for the first time in his career.

On the postseason, Matthews created a new record for the Packers for most sacks in a single season with 3.5 sacks.

He signed a 2-year contract with Los Angeles Rams on March 19, 2019. 
He played for LAR for 1 year, and in the postseason, he was released.

They have three children together. In the movie Pitch Perfect 2, Matthews and several of his teammates have a cameo appearance.

He had also referred a WWE smackdown match when he ran down in the ring to make the three-count and announce the winner.
