His football career started in high school when he won the state football championship with 106 touchdowns and 8,804 yards. This record if Emmitt was the second most yardage in the history of American football of all time.

  • By the end of his freshman year at college, he was voted ninth at the Heisman voting.
  • He was awarded to be the game’s MVP at the 1988 All-American Bowl for running a 55-yard touchdown.
  • By the end of his college life, Emmitt had 58 school records that were all a result of his career as a University of Florida footballer.
  • Emmitt was given a place as “Gator Great” in the year 1999 at the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame.
  • He also received a place at the College Football Hall of Fame and a Gator Football Ring of Honor in the year 2006 for his outstanding college football career.
Throughout Emmitt Smith’s professional football career that lasted between the years 1990 and 2004, he was part of two major football teams including the Dallas Cowboys (1990-2002) and the Arizona Cardinals (2003-2004). In the year 2002, when he was still a member of the Dallas Cowboys, Smith achieved the goal that he had set as a rookie player i.e. he finished the season with 17,162 career yards.
