Jusuf Nurkić is a basketball professional from Bosnia. He was born on August 23rd, 1994 and currently features with the Portland Trail Blazers from the NBA. He is 7 ft tall and weighs 290 lbs. he plays in the position of center and was picked by the Chicago bulls as the 16th pick during the NBA drafts of 2014. He plays in the international competitions with Bosnia and Herzegovina team.
Cedevita Zagreb (2012–2014)
Nurkić agreed to a deal with Cedevita Zagreb in 2012. He had a small role in the team and was loaned out to the Zadar expecting more playtime. During his 2nd season, he made a notable performance in the Adriatic League with an average of 11.6 points and rebounds tally of 5.6 from just 16.3 minutes he played on the court. He received nominations for the Best Young Player Award by FIBA.
Denver Nuggets (2014–2017)
Chicago Bulls picked Nurkić in 2014. He was then handed over to the Denver Nuggets with whom he signed a rookie contract. He played his first NBA game in October 2014 and made 5 points along with 7 rebounds during a victory against the Detroit Pistons. He recorded his first double-double scoring 10 points along with 10 rebounds during a defeat versus the Chicago Bulls.
Nurkić was included as a participant of the Rising Stars Challenge in 2015 but did not play due to personal factors. He made a season-best of 17 points during a defeat against the Golden State Warriors.
Nuggets extended his contract till the season of 2016–17. He debuted versus the Golden State Warriors. In his next outing versus the Minnesota Timberwolves, he netted 15 points, 5 blocks, and 10 rebounds and helped the team to victory. He set a season-best scoring record of 17 points versus the Washington Wizards which they won.
He then beat this figure twice in the month of March, scoring 18 versus the Los Angeles Lakers and 19 versus the Los Angeles Clippers. He improved this tally versus the San Antonio Spurs with 21 points and helping them win the contest. Nurkić wanted to leave the ream after he was left on the bench in April 2016 and he was allowed to do so before the trade deadline of 2017.
Portland Trail Blazers (2017–present)
Nurkić reached the Portland Trail Blazers in February 2017 as a part of a player exchange deal. His first start came with a double-double scoring 12 points and rebounds each versus the Orlando Magic. He made his career-best of 28 points during a victory against the Philadelphia 76ers. He became the first player in NBA to register 28 points, 6 blocks, 8 assists, and 20 rebounds after 1986.
On 28 March 2017, he set a new career-best with 33 points to go with 16 rebounds in a 122–113 win over his former team, the Denver Nuggets. He signed with them again in July 2018.
He netted his first triple-double of 10 apiece points, rebounds, and assists versus the Cleveland Cavaliers in January. He suffered a fracture in his tibia during a match versus the Brooklyn Nets which has ruled him out since then.
National team career
Nurkić earned the MVP Award for the Under-18 Championship of Europe, Division B of 2012. He had an average points tally of 19.4, along with 13.3 rebounds per match. He also received the award for the MVP after the Under-20 Championship of Europe’s Division Bin 2014. He had an average of 21.4 points along with 12 rebounds per match.
He had a small part in the EuroBasket Qualification of 2013. However, he did not play in the final rounds of the tournament due to conflicts with the Basketball Association of Bosnia. He played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina basketball team in the qualification rounds of Eurobasket 2017. He had an average of 19.2, 1 block, and 13.5 rebounds per match.
