Karl-Anthony Towns was born on 15th November 1995 in Piscataway, State of New Jersey, the USA is a professional American basketball player of Dominican descent, who plays for the National Basketball Association in Minnesota Timberwolves club. Towns was selected in the 2015 NBA draft under the common first number. Standing tall at 2.13 meters, he plays in the pivot position
Towns played three seasons at St. Joseph Institute in Metuchen, NJ, where he was included in the best state quintet in each season, as he led the institute to three state championships. Towns played a season of college basketball with the Wildcats of the University of Kentucky.
Towns was brought up in Piscataway Township, New Jersey, where he went to Lake Nelson School. Later, he joined Theodore Schor School.
In his first year at Saint Joseph School in Metuchen, New Jersey, Karl-Anthony led the school’s basketball team to the 2012 state championship, earning first place in the national ranking of institute players called ESPN.
During his first season, Towns averaged 11.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 3.8 blocks per game while leading his institute to a 28-1 record. After the season, he was included in the best state quintet of the year.
In early December in the year 2012, Karl-Anthony announced that he’d graduate a year before high school. ESPN, which had it rated as the best candidate in the recruiting class of 2015, noted him as 3rd in his class of 2014.
In his second season in 2012-13, Towns recorded his best career average in the institute with 21.3 points, 14.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.8 steals and 5.6 blocks per game and led his institute to the state championship for the second time in a row.
On 6th January 2013, Karl-Anthony recorded its first quadruple-double with 17 rebounds, 16 points, 11 blocks and as many assists against St. Peter's Institute. At the end of the season, Towns was named as the best state quintet of the year for the second time in a row.
To culminate his career at the institute, Towns participated in events for senior institute stars such as the McDonald's All-American, Jordan Brand Classic and the Nike Hoop Summit.
In his only season in the university competition, in the Wildcats of the University of Kentucky, Towns averaged 10.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game, being elected Rookie of the Year of the Southeastern Conference. In 2015, Town and his Kentucky team made it to the Final Four, losing to the University of Wisconsin 71-64.
On June 25, 2015, Towns was elected in the first position of the 2015 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, becoming the first Latino player to be elected to that position.
He also became the fifth Latino to be chosen in the first position of any professional sports draft in the United States. On July 7, 2015, Towns signed his first professional contract with Timberwolves. Before coming to the NBA, Karl signed a contract with Nike on August 3, 2015.
On Wednesday, October 28, 2015, Towns made his professional première in the Timberwolves victory against the Los Angeles Lakers of Kobe Bryant 112-111.
In 32 minutes of action and as a starter, he made his first double-double with 14 points & 12 rebounds. In his second game, against Denver Nuggets, he became the most prominent player of his team, achieving 28 points & 14 rebounds, which led to the Wolves starting in the league for the first time in their history with two consecutive victories.
On February 12, 2016, he participated in the Rising Stars Challenge of the NBA All-Star Weekend, where he recorded 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. The next day, Towns along with DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis, became the first pivots in history to participate in the NBA Skills Contest.
