Mike Daniels was born in Stratford, New Jersey. He grew up in New Jersey and attended Highland Regional High School. He has a brother, Sean Daniels who also plays football. Daniels was a very athletic student.
He played running back and defensive tackle in football and was also the captain of the football team. He was also in the wrestling team where he was a three-year letterman.
He qualified for state in the discus throw (43.77 m) and threw shot put as well (17.95 m).
Daniels was a very successful student and fit athlete. His 40-yard dash was timed at 4.6 seconds. He could also bench press 300 pounds (136.08 kg) and squatted 600 pounds (272.16 kg).
However, he did not get much notice from scouts, and he did not get recruited straight from high school.
He managed to get scholarships to two Universities, Temple University and the University of Iowa. He decided to attend the University of Iowa with a degree in sociology.
When Daniel started playing for Iowa’s Hawkeyes, he was redshirted in the first year.
In his second year, however, he managed to get a chance to play. The game was against Florida International University Golden Panthers where he had two solo tackles and one assisted tackle.
He then got the opportunity to play in all the games and had a total of 10 tackles for that year.
As a junior, Daniels continued to play great football. He got awarded his career-best with six tackles and four more tackles for a loss and a sack.
He was also awarded the Big Ten co-Defensive Player of the Week honors because of his amazing performance.
His senior year was just as successful. He started all the games (13 in total) at defensive tackle. During their game against Nebraska, Daniels topped his career-high with nine tackles.
Daniels got a record of 32 solo tackles in his final year of college. He was given a spot in the second team all Big-Ten team because of his performance.
In 2012, Mike Daniels was drafted in the fourth round by the Green Bay Packers. He got a lot of praise from different scouts for his quick defense skills even though his size was smaller than other blockers.
During the game with the Lions, Daniels managed to get his first touchdown for the league. The touchdown happened after he successfully recovered from losing the ball when Matthew Stafford tackled the ball.
In 2014, Daniels agreed to extend his contract. The contract extension was worth $42 million. In 2015, he finished the season with 49 tackles, 1 interception, 4 sacks, 2 passes defended, and 1 forced fumble.
In the NFL Top 100 Players of 2016, Mike Daniels was ranked 95th by his fellow players. In the 2017 NFL Top 100 Players, he was ranked 84th.
Daniels played for the Green Bay Packers for seven seasons. In 2019, he signed with the Detroit Lions. His contract was for a year, for $9.1 million. However, he only played nine games and was placed on injured reserve in December.
