The former football player was drafted in the 2011 National Football League for the first time by the New York Jets.
The player’s hometown is Linden in New Jersey where he did his schooling. He took admission in Linden High School and recorded 5 sacks, 78 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 forced fumble while studying in his senior year. Wilkerson’s name was included in the first-team of All-Watchung Conference in his junior season.
The player was chosen to the first-team of the Home News Tribune all-area, as well as, in the second-team of Newark Star-Ledger all-Union.
Wilkerson also helped Linden to clinch state titles in basketball while he was in the junior and senior years in his school.
His Career in College
After Wilkerson completed his high school, he spent 12 months at Hargrave Military Academy. However, he later took admission to Temple University. The player represented the football team called Temple Owls while studying here.
In 2008, during his freshman year at Temple, he took part in 11 games. He recorded a sack and 13 tackles then. During his sophomore year in 22009, Wilkerson started all thirteen games. He recorded 6 sacks and 58 tackles then.
In 2010, when he was a junior, the player recorded 10 sacks and 68 tackles. After his junior season got over, Wilkerson’s name was included in the All-MAC first-team. He was also declared as the team defensive Most Valuable Player.
Initially, the football analysts declared his selection as “a sleeper selection.” Wilkerson’s draft stock, though, had a significant increase later on.
The player was being considered as a versatile player. Eventually, the player was picked up in the first round by the New York Jets. Wilkerson was the 30th overall pick in the NFL draft of 2011. He was also the 4th player from Temple to be picked up by the Jets in that season.
While playing against the New York Giants, which was the player’s 3rd preseason game, he got into a brawl with Brandon Jacobs, a running back.
The fight led to the ejection of both these players. Wilkerson made his debut at the National Football League on September 11 the same year when his team played against the Dallas Cowboys.
After playing for several seasons with the Jets, the player was released by them on 28th February 2018.
After this, the player entered into a contract with the Green Bay Packers. The deal was for one-year and Wilkerson was to be given 5 million USD.
However, the player suffered a severe ankle injury on 23rd September 2018 while playing against the team Washington Redskins.
He was immediately taken off the field. The player had to undergo surgery at a hospital in Washington D.C. the same night. The incident led to him missing his flight to Wisconsin. Packers put him on injured reserve, thus ending his playing season.
The football player is a devout Muslim. However, he abstains from fasting in the holy month of Ramadan because of his involvement in sports. Yet, Wilkerson intends to start fasting in the future.
He was arrested in New York’s Washington Heights for DWI on 1st June 2019.
His alcohol content was more than the stipulated legal limit in the city of New York. On 4th March 2020, he was arrested by the State Police of New Jersey for DWI, as well as, possession of illegal drugs. It was the player’s 2nd time DWI offense.
