Early Life and Career
The McDonald's All American title winner is a relatively new entrant in the basketball scene so not much is known about his personal life. He also does not have a very active social media presence, with just an account on Twitter, with 7,500 followers, that appears to be solely dedicated to his basketball career with little to no personal details available.
The few details available about Reid are - he was born on 26th August 1999 in Asbury Park, New Jersey. He was enrolled at the Roselle Catholic High School and has been an impressive basketball player since his high school days. He was considered a 5-star recruit because he was named as New Jersey's best power forward of his time and ranked 3rd on a national level.
Reid, in an interview, revealed why he was committed to being a part of the Louisiana State University's NCAA Division I basketball team, the LSU Tigers. He was eager to train under their head coach, Wade, and assistant coach Greg Haier, among all their coaches.
After joining the Tigers, Reid maintained an average of 14.8 points per game, with 2.1 blocks and 7.7 rebounds. he also participated in the McDonald's All American Boys Game held in 2018 and had an average of 15 points while spending just 20 minutes on the court.
Reid debuted in college football in 2018 and helped his team grab a blowout win against the Southern Louisiana University. He nabbed 17 points in that match. During his freshman year, Reid maintained an average of 13.6 points and decided to declare for the 2019 NBA Draft.
Reid was considered to be a potential second-round draft in 2019 but remained un-drafted in that season. He, however, did get a contract from the Minnesota Timberwolves the same year; a two-way contract with the Timberwolves and their affiliated G League team, the Iowa Wolves.
As of the current 2019-2020 season, Reid's average in NBA stands at 7.8 points with 2.5 rebounds and 0.9 assists. Reid's career-high score has been 21 points.
With no major physical injuries' news and a steadily improving basketball graph, projected earnings for Reid are estimated to be in millions, though his current net worth is not known to the public. Critics have been appreciative of Reid's performances in general.
In one of his recent matches in January of 2020, Reid spent 20 minutes on court against the Warriors and managed three 3-pointers in that time. he scored 13 points and impressed his viewers with his unique skills during that game. Concern around his missing all the free throws, however, continues to remain on his primary drawbacks so far.
Speculations are although promising, Reid will have to wait for some time to enjoy a good, solid run at the NBA due to rotations with more skillful players like Karl-Anthony Towns, who couldn't play the match against the Warriors due to his knee injury.
In the next match after the Warriors, Reid achieved his career-best 20 points against the Thunder and managed to score 12 points in the second half alone. Critics noted his productive energy spurt during the second half helped him achieve that big score.
