College Career

During his college years itself, he demonstrated that he had what it takes to enter the professional level. Even during college, his brilliance was acknowledged by noted people such as offensive line coach Jim Bollman.

This proved to be the case as he finished his college career with a stellar 33 starts in 45 games. He has also added feathers to his cap, such as the All-Big Ten Conference Honorable Mention honors in 2004.

Remarkable Career Trajectory and Rankings

As a result of his strong showing in the 2006 Senior Bowl, he ended up as the only center selected in the 1st round of the 2006 NFL Draft and also had the distinction of being the highest pick among Ohio State Buckeye centers since 1945.

It is worth mentioning that Nick Mangold has made it to the 18th position in the top player rankings, playing as a center for the Jets in 164 games spanning 11 seasons.

Indeed, Mangold started with an excellent rookie season, where he allowed only 0.5 sacks and committed only three penalties while making all of the line calls.

Over time, he even came to be known as the best center in the last fifteen years according to Mike Mayock, an expert on the NFL.

One of the highlights of his career came when Mangold started fifteen games in both seasons and was awarded a Pro Bowl selection in both years, and this achievement took his tally of Bowl selections to seven.

Injury and Retirement

Quite unfortunately, in Week 7 of the 2016 season, he had to sit out four games due to an ankle injury that he suffered. He tried to return in week 13 to play against the Colts before meeting with another injury.

Consequently, on December 8, 2016, he was placed as an injured reserve, which ended his season for good.

On the fateful day of February 25, 2017, the Jets released Mangold after he had played eleven seasons for their team, as they were in a rebuilding mode that was brought about by a poor showing.

His illustrious career came to an end on April 17, 2018, after spending the entire season of that year out of football.

Notably, on April 24, 2018, he signed a day-long contract to officially retire as a Jet.

Mangold majored in Operations Management in college alongside playing the game he loved.

Further, Nicholas Allan Mangold had tied the knot with Jennifer Richmond, his high school girlfriend, in April 2017 and had been living in Chatham, New Jersey during his NFL days.
