Early Days

Reshad Jones was born on 25th February in 1998 and is a free agent American Football player who played at the strong safety position.

In the 2010 NFL Draft, he was picked by the Miami Dolphins during the 5th round of the selection process. During his college years, he played for the University of Georgia.


Jones was born and raised in Atlanta and he graduated with many football honors from his school ‘Booker T. Washington High School’.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and also the Georgia Sports Writers Association conferred him the AAAA All-state and also Defensive Player of the Year titles. According to Rivals 100 and Prepstar 100, Jones was the no.1 safety in the country.

College Years

He was a two-year starter and a three-year letterman in Georgia and played 39 games with 27 starts in which he had seen 206 tackles out of which 129 were solo.

In his college career, he had batted 13 passes away and managed to intercept 11 of them. This excellent player became the eight-player ever since 1950 to lead a team in consecutive years.

Professional Years

In 2010 he announced that he would forgo his senior season for a chance to enter the 2010 NFL Draft. He attended the NFL Scouting Combine and was one of the 544 Collegiate defensive backs that attended.

He finished third on the bench press and fifth in vertical jump and 21st in the 40-yard dash. At the end of the process, he was projected to be a 4th or a 5th round pick

As the predictions were correct he was drafted in the 5th round by the Miami Dolphins.

He was inactive for two games after his knee got injured. Later in the game against Tennessee Titans, he recorded three solo tackles and also intercepted a pass.

 In the game against Chicago Bears, he recorded 5 solo tackles and finished his rookie season with 21 combined tackles and sack in 13 games with two starts. He was signed by the Dolphins for almost $2 million for a four-year contract which included a signing bonus.

In 2011, he competed for the job of starting safety with Chris Clemons and the coordinator of defense Mike Nolan asked Jones to start at the free safety position alongside Yeremiah Bell.

During that season he had a season-high of 12 combined tackles and deflected one pass. In the next week against the Houston Texans, he had six combined tackles and also a sack.

Reshad was off the team due to a knee injury in the Denver Broncos game. He had recovered from the injury the very next week itself but he was demoted to be a backup for Tyrone Culver.

In November he recorded a season-high of 14 tackles and also deflected a pass. In week 13 of the season, he deflected a pass by Tom Brady and finished the year with 94 combined tackles, four interceptions, nine pass deflections, and 16 sacks.

2013 saw him avoiding team meets and events due to a contract dispute. The Miami Dolphins then signed him for $28 million for a 4-year contract.

Ever since he has been retained by the Dolphins and was given a $60 million 5 year extension in 2017.

He got injured in 2019 and was let go of in March 2020 even though he still had 2 years left on his contract. Some say this was due to the injury that he had suffered.
