Robert Blanton is a popular American football strong safety. Currently, he is a free agent. He was born on 7th September 1989 in Clackamas, Oregon. His height is 1.85m and weighs 91kg. His position is safety.

Early Life

He was born in Oregon and went to David W. Butler High School in Matthews, North Carolina. After completing high school, he completed his graduation from the University of Notre Dame.

While doing graduation, he started playing football in college. During those days, Minnesota Vikings drafted him in the fifth round of the NFL Draft, 2012.

 Due to his incredible performance during college days, he was honored as a second-team All-state. He recorded 126 tackles, 10 pass breakups, 6 interceptions that caused 6 fumbles, and blocked six kicks.

His passion and excellent skills recognized by everyone. Therefore, he was one of the luck 11 players from North Carolina State, who got selected to the All-Southern team run by The Orlando Sentinel.

Later, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution named him as one of the 10 cornerbacks and appeared in the list of the Super Southern 100.

When he was a junior player, he recorded 147 tackles 7 interceptions, and 12 pass breakups in almost 15 games. In 2007, The Associated Press also named him first-team all-State in the year 2006 and 2007.

Once he becomes senior in 2007, he recorded 97 tackles, blocked 6 kicks, 5 interceptions to make the team Bulldogs taste the success of reaching the second round of Class 4AA playoffs. He also earned the honor of Defensive Player of the Year by The Charlotte Observer.

He also got selected for the U.S Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas in 2008. While playing for them, he played cornerback and safety, both. Along with that, he also played for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.

Blanton started his professional career with Minnesota Vikings. He signed a contract with the Vikings on May 22, 2012. He was drafted by the team in the 5th round with the 4th pick in the NFL Draft of 2012. He literally performed amazing and recorded 106 tackles, 1 fumble, and 1 pass.

Buffalo Bills

After that, he started playing with Buffalo Bills and signed a one-year contract with the team. On the 11th week, he suffered a severe foot injury.

Keeping in mind his injury, he was put on the injury reserve list on 26th November 2016. However, he came back to the team on 20 Sept 2017. He again signed with Buffalo Bills and was released again on 3rd October 2017.

Dallas Cowboys

He also signed a contract with one of the most prestigious NFL teams, Dallas Cowboys on 20th April 2017. However, he was quickly released by the team on September 2nd, 2017.

  • Apart from football, he also took participated in basketball and track and field when he was in Butler.
  • He was also into jumping, and used to run with hurdles, and surpassed around 21 feet in the long jump. Also, he cleared 2.01 meters while performing a high jump.

He was also rated as the top cover safety in the country. He ranked #22nd best safety in the nation. Apart from that, he was rated 7th best prospect in North Carolina State.
