Veronika Verakova came to New York from Olomouc, the Czech Republic at the age of 19 to attend Parsons School of Design. However, her fate had something else in store for her.
When she came to the city she didn’t know that she would arrive so soon. Her meeting with Next Models, Manhattan turned out to be the turning point for her career and life as she was immediately signed by them.
Veronika was shot by many renowned photographers. Some of them like Greg Kadel, Patrick Demarchelier, Ellen Von Unsworth, Peter Lindbergh, and Gilles Bensimon.
Call it being at the right place at the right time, she was instantly noticed and cast in many famous brand campaigns too.
One can easily spot her in various campaigns for Victoria’s Secret, Chanel, Patek Philippe, Guess, Ungaro, Escada, Gap, Chopard, Hublot, Pantene, Nivea, Newport News, etc.
Her work found its glory in the television world too and she was called to be a part of popular TV Shows like Fox and Friends, CNN, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Charlie Rose and Jimmy Kimmel Live
! Veronika was later associated with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition a total of 8 times from 1999-2002, 2004-2007.
In the year 2004, she was on the cover of the magazine. That also marked her arrival as the cover face for other fashion and lifestyle magazines such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Harpers & Queen, Marie Claire, and Maxim.
Veronika proved to the fashion world that she was indeed a classic example of beauty with brains.
She not only used her fame to change benchmarks in the fashion and lifestyle industry but also bring about a social change, especially towards a better environment for future generations. Her philanthropy work earned many accolades.
The Peak of Her Career
At the peak of her career in 2004, Veronika met her first husband, a Czech Canadian professional ice-hockey player Petr Nedved. However, their marital bliss lasted only for two years and the two separated in 2006. Veronika was quite the unconventional model.
While one would expect her to be interested in common model things like snapping numerous photos, slaying down a skinny ramp in heels higher than standards of some people, clothes, make-up the whole works; she surprised her fans and audience by showing her passion for painting, golfing, and scaling Mount Kilimanjaro, World’s highest free-standing mountain in the year 2008.
It was during this endeavor in Tanzania where she met the African Wildlife Foundation. She was actively involved and invested in the foundation’s cost and was also made their goodwill ambassador in October 2009.
She is also a benefactor at the SZPD Orphanage in her native town Olomouc.
Recently, Veronika was in the limelight once again for her glorious achievements. In 2019, she was awarded the Global Changemaker Award; an inaugural award at Salute Africa: A Tribute for Mandela Washington Fellows.
She was given the award for her exceptional passion for environmentalism and conservation; Veronika emerged as an inspiring leader.
Her acceptance speech was quite an inspiring one where she spoke about her pledge towards protecting the wildlife in Africa and the African ecosystem.
However, among her other qualities, one that is quite notable is that she is quite a family person. And despite living in New York, she pays a visit to her friends and family in Prague.
