How to Register to Vote in Florida?

If you are residing in the state of Florida, you need to register yourself for voting through the state's Division of Elections so that you can participate on Election Day.

Also, you may register to vote at an office of FLHSMV (Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles) while making your driving license transactions.

Eligibility criteria to register for voting in Florida

Following are the criteria for able to register yourself for voting in the state of Florida:

  • One has to be a US citizen;
  • Should be Florida’s legal resident;
  • Should be a minimum of 18-year-old to register for voting or at least 16-year-old for preregistering;
  • Should be the country’s legal resident where you want to be registered;
  • Should not be convicted of any kind of felony with civil rights taken away and;
  • Should not be declared mentally incapable with regards to voting in the state of Florida/any other state and whose voting right needs to be restored first.

A person should apply for clemency for getting his/her voting rights restored. The application must be made through the Office of Executive Clemency.

Ways of registering for voting in Florida

An eligible individual should register at least twenty-nine days prior to Election Day so that he/she can vote in Florida. A person can register to vote in any one of the following ways:

  • In person
  • Online
  • By mail

They need to simply submit a properly completed Form 76 to their local election officials in Florida. Such people can request absentee ballots using the FPCA when they are not in the state. It is imperative to note in this context that spouses and dependents of military personnel may also use the FPCA to register for voting in the state.

  • Social Security Number
  • Identification card or driver’s license- You should also furnish the date of issue of the same.

In case you are not able to submit all the details needed for your online submission, there is no need to be worried. It is still possible for you to use the site for pre-filling your application form. After that, you have to take a printout of this form and follow the guidelines to submit the same in person or by mail.

  • Any public library or
  • A recruitment office of armed forces

After an application has been approved, the voter information card is mailed to him/her.
