Your iPhone has become an essential tool of your life, as you can’t imagine going anywhere without it. Thanks to its capable camera, you can capture all your favorite memories with a couple of taps. It allows you to carry all the music in the world, thanks to the availability of various music streaming apps. You also get to watch a myriad of shows and movies, while you are on the go. In other words, it is the ultimate media consumption device you can carry in your pocket.
Despite the iPhone a top smartphone in the industry, it does face its fair share of problems. One issue that a lot of users face is that the device won’t turn off, regardless of holding the top button.
If your gadget is in this situation, don’t worry, because you can fix your iPhone, without having to visit the nearby service center. Given below is a guide on what you should do when your iPhone doesn’t turn off.
Try a hard reset
The first way to resolve this issue is to hard reset your iPhone so that it boots up again. It is the same as turning your device off and on. Don’t be alarmed by the name of this technique, as it doesn’t erase the files in your iPhone.
It is similar to switching your smartphone on and off, but in this case, you clear the memory and the device.
iPhone 8 and above
If you have an iPhone 8 or above, you need to press and release the volume up button and do the same with the volume down button. The next step is to hold the side button until the screen goes black, and the Apple logo appears. You can leave the side button, and your device should start normally.
iPhone 7 series
For the iPhone 7 series, you can perform a hard reset by holding the volume down button and sleep button for a minimum of 10 seconds. Once the Apple logo comes on the screen, you can stop pressing the buttons.
iPhone 6s and below
For models which are iPhone 6s or below, you need to hold the sleep button and the home button for 10 seconds. After you see the Apple logo appear, you can let go of these buttons.
Use assistive touch
If one of the physical buttons don’t work, you can still fix your iPhone, if it doesn’t turn off. First, you need to enable assistive touch, which you will find in Settings>General>Accessibility.
After you active this, you need to tap on the software home button, select device, and hold Lock Screen. An option called “Slide to Power Off” appears, which will help you shut down the iPhone.
Restore from backup
If the above tips don’t work, the last option is to restore your phone via backup. In other words, it allows you to take the software of your phone to a version where you didn’t face this issue.
It is a simple process, and it won’t take a lot of time to get your iPhone up and running. Connect your device to your laptop, open iTunes, and select the phone icon. Under Backups, click on “Back Up Now” and select “Restore Backup” after the process completes.
You can go back to a previous version by selecting “Restore Backup.” However, you may lose your data if you select this option.
The reason why your iPhone’s screen won’t turn off is that the sleep button doesn’t work or due to software problems. With the help of these three tips, you can fix your iPhone even if it doesn’t turn off!
