How to Open and Access Gmail Contacts

Gmail contacts are Google’s way of managing contacts and their integration into the popular free email service. It is also integrated with Google’s business-oriented line of web applications which is called Google Apps.

Some of the features of Google Contacts are –

  • It lets you sort contacts into groups and lets you arrange them by either their first or last name. For example, if you’d like to keep your work life and personal life separate, you can separate your work contacts and your personal contacts.
  • Google has coded an impressive search function.
  • Any changes you make to your contacts are saved automatically.
  • Google lets you restore an entire database from any time within the last 30 days.
  • There are plenty of keyboard shortcuts to simplify usage.
  • Google Contacts are integrated with lots of other Google products and services which makes it easy to use if you’re already heavily invested in the ecosystem.
  • Gmail makes life easier by keeping track of the people you contact the most which it then adds to a list called Frequently Contacted. If you’d like, you can add any of these people to your main contact list.
  • A lot of people hate clutter and Google knows that. They’ve coded Contacts to clear any duplicate contact information. If you’d like to look at the duplicates, you can click on duplicates which will be on the left panel of the Google Contacts screen.
  • Gmail lets you import, export and even print out an entire list of your contacts in a jiffy.
  • Gmail merges the details and information that your contacts decide to share automatically.

Let’s get started with how to open and access your Gmail Contacts

  1. On your computer, go to your Gmail account screen.
  2. Click on the Gmail logo. It’s really easy to find but if you can’t find it, it’s usually at the top-left hand corner of the page.
  3. Click on Contacts which should be displayed on a drop-down menu which will open the Google Contacts screen.
  4. Finish up by clicking on the Contacts folder on the left side of the Gmail page.

There are a couple of other ways of accessing Contacts. Let’s have a look at them.

  • You can access Contacts by using a keyboard shortcut. To do this, press the g key on your keyboard. Follow up by immediately pressing the c key in Gmail to list the Contacts folders in the left panel.
  • You can enter this URL ( into your web browser to open the Gmail screen with the contacts folders listed on the left side of the page.

What can you do with your contacts?

After selecting Contacts which you can find at the top of the Gmail left panel. You can do any of the following.

  • Open only your starred contacts or all of them.
  • Look at your circles’
  • Look at the people you’ve contacted the most.
  • Make new groups of contacts.
  • Import contacts from other services.
