Katiria Tirado, 34 from Hartford, Connecticut, was sentenced to 11 years in prison for neglecting, abusing and starving her autistic teenage son until he died. Tirado's son, Matthew, weighed 84 pounds at the time of his death, and reportedly died from malnutrition and dehydration.
According to the medical examiner report, Matthew suffered from “cuts and bruises on his body,” and reportedly looked for food in trash cans and survived on oils and condiments. On February 14, 2017, Tirado texted her sister saying that her son “looks like he is dying" after he was vomiting a blood like substance for several days before his death.
36 minutes later, Tirado called 911 and Matthew died in the hospital in the following morning according to investigators. Tirado pleaded guilty to the charges brought against her, and her attorney claims that she denies causing her son's death intentionally, and that she is remorseful.
