Private universities are funded via student tuition fees and are more expensive than public universities for this reason. Most of America's top universities are private such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania. These colleges are generally run not for profit. The staff-to-student ratio in private universities is much better when compared to public universities and the resource allocation is also higher.
