Politicians and their Celebrity Supporters
By infohub — Feb 4th, 2017
Politics and stardom have always gone hand-in-hand. Just like the general public, there are many celebrities out there who are very vocal and active supporters of certain politicians. Take a look at some of the most powerful politicians in the world and their starry supporters:
The term of the United States’ 44th President was a colorful one. From the killing of one of the world’s most feared terrorists to the passing and implementation of the Affordable Care Act, there were many victories which garnered celebrity supporters for one of the world’s most loved Presidents.
- Leonardo DiCaprio
DiCaprio has always been a very vocal supporter of Obama. When Obama was running for the presidency in 2008, DiCaprio donated $2,300 to his campaign. He even spoke at UN General Assembly Hall in the Climate Summit 2014 with President Obama and addressed 120 world leaders.
- Beyoncé and Jay Z
The power couple is a great friend of the Obamas and during Obama’s 2012 campaign, they hosted a charity event priced at $40,000 a head to be donated to a cause chosen by Obama. They have attended almost all of the White House dinners thrown by the Obamas and they also happen to be Malia and Sasha’s all-time favorite artists.
The most influential woman in the world had Obama’s back even before he decided to run for the presidency. Oprah is arguably the most vocal supporter of Obama and was one of the few celebrities actively campaigning for his victory.
Running against Trump would certainly not have been an easy task, but presidential candidate Hillary Clinton did a phenomenal job. Extremely progressive in her outlook, Clinton was one of the US’s top diplomats between 2009 and 2013.
- Reese Witherspoon
It’s a known fact that the Republicans have a very strong foothold in the South. Despite this, Louisiana-born Witherspoon has been an active supporter of Clinton. She donated multiple times to Clinton’s campaign and supported the candidate in her run for presidency.
- Meryl Streep
Streep has always supported pro-women leaders and it was obvious where her vote would go during the 2016 elections. She even endorsed Clinton in the Democratic National Convention, while extolling her courage, grit, and determination.
- George and Amal Clooney
The gorgeous couple was very vocal about their support for Clinton and even hosted a fundraiser at their Los Angeles home. They raised $33,400 at the event, all of which was donated to the Hillary Victory Fund.
The current President of the United States of America has been in the eye of the storm since the day he announced his candidacy. While his decisions about illegal border crossing and national security were met favorably by most, his take on health care, travel ban, and the US-Mexican wall were looked down upon. Yet, he has some diehard followers today.
- Mike Tyson
The iconic heavyweight champion may be a butterfly off the pitch, but he definitely chose a stinger when it came to the presidential elections. Tyson has always believed that the Trump presidency could get a lot done for America, especially since Trump doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty.
- Gene Simmons
The Kiss singer ran into some controversy himself when he supported Trump’s idea of building the US-Mexico wall. He has gone to talk about how Trump would be great for America and has supported his campaign on various talk shows.
- Azealia Banks
The famous rapper has been one of the most vocal supporters of Trump, since the beginning of his campaign. Banks’ statement calling Hilary an ‘establishment robot groomed to carry out an agenda’ was a clear indicator of her love for Trump.
