It's no secret that in the world of television and media women are pitted against one another as competitors. It’s not only glamorous celebs that face this issue but moms are also likely to feel victim to other women passing judgement over them. Whether it’s the notion of 'mommy wars' in the playground, feeling judged for being a working-mom or nasty competition in a gym class, it's not surprising that most moms are craving a bit of female camaraderie. 1. Build a Community for Yourself
Like-minded people attract like-minded people and doing activities that could help you meet other parents could help you to support one another. Being part of a community is essential and moms often deal with issues that are unique to their routine.
Start by reaching out to friends and family members that you trust as they may be able to set you up on a 'friend-date'. This could be anything from meeting up for a coffee, to participating in a play date for you and your kids. If this is a blind friend date and you have their name, why not conduct a people search to see if you have any common interests before you meet.
2. Make Peace with Mean Moms
One way in which moms can call an end to unsupportive behavior is by simply calling a truce. Mommy wars are unnecessary and the word itself allows society to find women passing judgement on other women acceptable. Whether you are in competition with other women to be the coolest, cleverest or most successful mom, it has to stop! Moms need to stop being critical of each other, especially in front of their kids, as this could lead to another generation of women behaving in an unsupportive way to one another. As long as your friends' main goals are to raise happy and healthy children then you're all fighting the same battle.
3. Look After Yourself
Although this isn’t technically about supporting other moms, supporting yourself is just as important. What's more, ensuring you support yourself in the right way, will help you feel sane enough to tackle anything life throws at you, especially unsupportive women, in the right way. It's important that you treat yourself as you would your best friend because if you aren’t on your A-game, you won't be able to be the best mom to your children that you know you can be. Putting too much pressure on yourself can cause low self esteem and poor mental health and it is imperative that your kids have a healthy, happy mom. You deserve self-support, enjoy it!
There is no denying how hard it is to be a mom. Raising a child is a full-time job on its own what with ensuring they stay fit and healthy. Aside from that, you also have work, laundry, cooking, relationships and looking after yourself to contend with too. Supporting each other is key to being a better parent so what are you waiting for?
