Jessamine County Detention Center Overview
The Jessamine County Detention Center exists to provide a safe and secure environment to inmates who have been either arrested or convicted of any crime and are awaiting judgment. It helps the inmates to shape up their lives through various rehabilitative programs to return to their normal lives and society.
Jessamine County Detention Center History
The Jessamine County Detention Center was originally set up as a jail and was named the Jessamine County Jail and was located at the corner of S. Main and Chestnut Streets. The Old Jail has now been rented to the residents of the county which now serves as a place for meetings, reunions, and socials.
The first building to be set up at this location was the "Mingo Tavern," which the center point of all activities and gatherings in Nicholasville in the olden days. The first building also served as the jail which was built by Benjamin Netherland and Theodosia, his wife until about 1869, when funds were approved to build the new jail. For the construction of the new building, the stone was hauled by horse and wagon from the Kentucky River. Many jailors served in this building.
Jessamine County Detention Center Current Information
The detention center is open for visitation to friends and family of convicted male inmates on Mondays, Wednesday, and Friday from 9.30 am-11.30am and again 3.00pm-5.30 pm. On Tuesday and Thursday, the detention center is open from 12.30pm-3.00pm and again 6.30pm-8.00pm. Jessamine County Detention Center is also open on Sunday, and the timings are 9.30am-11.30am,12.30pm-5.30pm, and 6.30pm-8.00pm.
For visiting female inmates, friends and families can visit the detention center on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12.30pm-3.00pm and 6.30pm-8.00pm, on Tuesday and Thursday from 9.30 am-11.30am and 3.00pm-5.30pm and Saturday from 9.30am-11.30am, 12.30pm-5.30pm, and 6.30pm-8.00pm. All visitors must have a valid ID proof, wear appropriate clothing and register before visitation.
Visitors can pay a visit to inmates who are in restricted Custody on Saturday from 9.00am-11.00am whose name starts with A-J and 1.00pm-3.00pm whose name starts with K-Z. On Sundays, visitors can pay a visit to inmates whose name starts with K-Z and A-J from 9.00am-11.00am and 1.00pm-3.00pm respectively.
