William Cameron was the first sheriff of the county, and he took charge in 1825. On the 3rd of March, 1845, Florida became the 27th state of the country and Leon County was named the capital county of the state. It is as per the first constitution of the state the office of the sheriff was created which means every county would have a sheriff. Till now, 28 sheriffs have served the people of Leon County.
