Kansas Full Overview:

Located in the Midwestern region of the United States, Kansas is a state that is named after the Kansa tribe that used to reside in the region. The capital of the state in Topeka and the first settlement in the region was established in 1812. Kansas is a state that has grown in agricultural importance since producing high volumes of wheat, corn, sorghum, and soybeans.

The Kansa tribe which inhabited the region was not the only tribe living in the region. There were eastern tribes that lived along the river valleys, and western tribes were semi-nomadic and hunted herds of bison. The name of the tribe Kansa is said to mean “people of the south wind,” but this may not be the real meaning of the term.
