A prominent program-Crime Stoppers

City of Richmond Police Department executes a special program called Crime Stoppers that includes the residents, media, and the police force to fight together against crime and heinous acts. The program began in 1984 as a joint endeavor of the Retail Merchants Association, law enforcement officers of the region, and some retailers.

If a resident contacts the Crime Stoppers, they can be anonymous, which means that it is not mandatory for them to testify before the judges or tell their names. They are eligible to get up to a maximum of 1,000 USD as rewards.

3. Crisis Negotiation

The Richmond police department’s CNT or Crisis Negotiations Team has a crucial role to play as the name of the team suggests. The role of the Crisis Negotiations Team is to negotiate on the subjects’ safe surrender during critical conditions. Some examples of such scenarios are negotiations conducted with barricaded subjects, armed and suicidal subjects, as well as, negotiating with the kidnappers to ensure the safe release of the hostages kidnapped by them.

Another key feature of the CNT is that it constitutes non-sworn, as well as, sworn police employees. The department ensures that all members of this unit undergo stipulated training. They also have to attend an in-house training program conducted every quarter. The unit is equipped with advanced communication gadgets and a vehicle with special response.

4. Communications Center

It is the single point of contact for answering all non-emergency and emergency phone calls that come into the department by dialing 911 for El Cerrito and Richmond cities.

Some prominent duties of dispatchers are collecting critical details in emergency situations and coordinating the required responses by sending appropriate medical, fire, and police units. The dispatchers use a sophisticated CAD or computer-aided dispatch system to carry out their duties. They have also started using an advanced radio system recently, which can also communicate with several other local fire and police agencies.
