The Adirondack Correctional Facility History shows that the facility started to operate as Ray Brook Sanatorium in 1904. At that time, this was the first state-operated tuberculosis sanatorium. In 1971, the facility opened as Ray Brook Rehabilitation center for treating substance abuse issues in around 70 to 130 women inmates. Again, it was closed within 5 years. Then, it started to function as a camp for adult inmates. Following the 1980 Winter Olympics, the facility was used for Olympic staff housing. Due to this, renovations were done. After the Olympics, it became a new federal prison with lots of facilities. Following this, in 1981, the place was conferred as Adirondack Correctional Facility.
