The Bledsoe County Correctional Complex is spread over an area of 2500 acres and it is located between the Pikeville and Spencer. The Bledsoe County Correctional Complex became operational in 2013 and it’s a state prison of Bledsoe County. There are old and new complexes; with the old one built in around 1980s with 900 plus beds and the new one was constructed in 2013 with 1500 plus beds for inmates in the prison area.

The Bledsoe County Correctional Complex has mixed security levels with inmates of different security levels. The correctional complex has above 2000 adult inmates with minimum to medium-security levels. There are three separate facilities in the correctional facility complex named Site 1, Site 2 and Unit 28, wherein, Unit 28 houses only female offenders. Site 2 houses the largest number of offenders at present with over 152-bed annex.

Most of the offenders in the facility are serving a term of over one year for different criminal offenses, though the inmates’ population is diverse, serving a term for different offenses. Bledsoe County Correctional Complex also houses a female unit and a separate complex for male offenders.

The Bledsoe County Correctional Complex is also an intake and classification center for inmates. It performs a periodic evaluation of inmates and classifies their details by taking fingerprints, photographs, physical examination, and conducting other assessments. According to the obtained data, the inmates are assigned security classification and facilities.

The Bledsoe County Correctional Complex also provides training programs to inmates. The programs offered in the correctional complex are skill-based and train the inmates in enhancing their skills such as in repairing, electronics, food preparation, carpentry. The Bledsoe County Correctional Complex is also part of the initiative called Tennessee Rehabilitative Initiative in Correction that helps the inmate work to do work on farms.

Under this initiative, the inmates are allowed to cultivate and grow crops, and also harvest milk on the farms. Site 2 of the Bledsoe County Correctional Complex where the programs for vocational training for inmates are run. The facility also offers inmates with counselors support to help them rehabilitate. The counselors provide guidance on housing, healthcare, employment and education needs of the offenders; and helps them in the rehabilitation process of the post-incarceration phase, when they leave to become part of the community once again.
