Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women, as the name suggests, is an all-female state prison situated in Pewee Valley of Shelby County. Female offenders, anywhere in Kentucky, of any custody level, are housed in this institution. In other words, female prisoners sentenced for life, waiting in the death row, or sentenced to a year in prison, are housed in this institution. This facility contains both, single units and bunk beds. It has the capacity to jail about 700 female criminals/offenders.

This 120 acres building was inaugurated in the year 1938. However, the institution got it's American Correctional Association (or ACA) accreditation only in 1982.

Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women Inmate Programs:

The Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women offers their female inmates treatment programs like alcoholic anonymous groups, narcotics anonymous groups, sex offender treatment, and emotional therapy. There is an 8-week program to help inmates understand and break free from any domestically abusive relationship.

The institution offers educational programs like the General Education Diploma (GED) is also available. Inmates who complete their GED at the institution are rewarded with $100.00. The Correctional Institute offers a "90 days of Educational Good Time" to inmates who either obtain their GED, train in a technical program or earn an associate's degree from the institution. The institute's vocational school gives the inmate a full-time vocational training during the day in Horticulture and part-time vocational training in courses like Microsoft Office. The Jefferson Community and Technical College are collaborated with the Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women to offer the inmates associates degree either in Arts or Science.

Apart from these, soft skills like resume writing or role stimulation are available for female inmates preparing to go back into the community.

The institute offers several other programs as well, for instance, "Pathfinders," "In 2 Work," "Kids day," "Paws with Purpose," and many more.

Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women Visiting Hours:

The Kentucky Correctional Institution is open for a public visit either on the weekends or on public holidays (like Labors' day or Christmas). The visiting hours on these days are from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM, thus, no visitor can enter the venue beyond 2:30 PM else inmate visit will not be approved. Each visitor is given a maximum of 2 hours per visit to meet with the inmate.

Bonding visits with children up to the age of 3 years could be scheduled via the Bonding Coordinator. These visits must be approved at least 5 days prior to the scheduled visit. The visits could be any day between Mondays to Fridays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. A maximum of two bonding visits a week, excluding the weekend visits, for two hours each, is allowed per inmate, as part of a special inmate bonding program, and could be held in either the Chapel, the bonding room, or the general visiting room.

Apart from the inmate's immediate family and children, an inmate can enroll 3 adult visitors in the approved visitor list.

It is important that the visitors are decked right, in the right attire, to be eligible to meet the inmate.

The visitors are allowed to carry the car keys (barring the electronic door locks), photo IDs, a pair of prescription eyewear, any important medication with a prescription, and jewelry (that the visitor is already wearing, like earrings or nose pins), inside the venue.

Visitors are allowed to carry a maximum of $40.00 in $1.00 bills in exchange for food (or vending machine use).

All posts or packages will be delivered to the inmate's post clearance from the correctional facility's authority if the package is sent via the United States Postal Services (or the USPS).

Money could be sent to the inmates through JPay.com with a fee as low as $2.75.
