The Lansing Correctional Facility was set up in the Leavenworth County area in Kansas. It can house around 2445 inmates at a given time, thereby making it the biggest Correctional Facility in the state of Kansas. The Facility is divided into two separate units, with a central unit which houses Maximum to medium-security inmates and a separate unit called the East Unit, which houses minimum security level inmates.

The Lansing Correctional Facility provides various educational and vocational programs for the inmates. The idea behind the facility is to ensure the inmates leave in a better condition than when they arrive. In order to provide rehabilitation of inmates, various programs are provided which includes:
- Educational Studies which include reading and writing ability training.
- Opportunity for inmates to earn their General Educational Development (GED), while they spend their time inside the premises, allowing for better utilization of time and improved earning ability after they are released.
- Vocational Training such as masonry, carpentry, mechanical and automobile repairing, HVAC repairing, carpet weaving, and cleaning and many more.
- For inmates with a history of substance abuse, counseling and therapeutic session are provided for rehabilitation out of such addiction. Such programs are introduced for sex offenders as well.

The Lansing Correctional Facility has inmates categorized into groups based upon their unit where they reside. Since the facility has maximum security and a minimum facility wing inside, the inmates are categorized as a maximum inmate and minimum inmate for our understanding.
For the Maximum security unit, the visiting days are set for Saturdays and Sundays on a rotating basis. Inmates in units number A1, B1, D, TRU, and PC are categorized as one lot of rotating inmates and the inmates from A2, B2, C2 and PC are categorized into another lot of rotating inmates. So the inmates of one lot if have their visiting day for Saturday, the other lot will have their day for a Sunday. The time slot for visits is from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. For the morning visits, no entry is allowed for registration post 11 AM and for the evening slot post 2 PM.
For the inmates of the Minimum facility unit, the visiting day is either for a Saturday or a Sunday, depending upon the schedule for the week and time slot is between 7:00 AM to 1:30 PM.

The Lansing Correctional Facility has a strict policy for visitors looking to visit the facility. Visitors are expected to be available for registration at least one hour before the end of the scheduled time for the visit. Any visitor reporting late will be barred from entry. Visitors must carry an official ID Proof with them.
No minors are allowed to enter without a parent or guardian accompanying them. Visitors are allowed to carry inside a few low denomination changes to be used in the Cafeteria inside. No personal belongings are allowed inside the premises. There is a dress code that is applicable for entry and visitors are expected to call up the facility prior to arrival to confirm the same.
