Situated in Windham, the Maine Correctional Center or MCC, a medium/minimum security facility that now houses both male and female prisoners, was established on April 4, 1919, by an act of the Legislature.
Once known as the Reformatory for Men, it was later renamed the Maine Correctional Center and went on to begin housing women since 1976. It is worthy to note that the facility now sits in what was once property worth $45,000.

Maine Correctional Center Inmate Programs
The facility is well-known to conduct myriad services and programs to meet the spiritual needs of over 600 inmates with the help of local clergy and trained volunteers. Also, there are comprehensive educational and vocational programs to facilitate the integration of the inmate into society after release. There are also intensive programs for treating substance abuse and mental health as well that have been well received.
Maine Correctional Center Visiting Hours
You can schedule an appointment at https://www.maine.gov/corrections/facilities/mcc/MCC_VisitRequest.htm. The available visiting hours will vary based on the unit
the inmate is in. The ones at MPU can be visited on Thursdays between 6:30 pm-7:30 pm, Saturdays between 1 pm-2 pm, and Sundays between 9:30 am-10:30 am and again at 1 pm-2 pm. The inmates housed at the Hill can be visited on Wednesdays from 6:30 pm-8 pm, Fridays from 6:30 pm-8 pm, Saturdays from 12:30 pm-2 pm and 2:30 pm-4 pm, and Sundays from 2:30 pm-4 pm and again at 6:30 pm-8 pm.
You are allowed to interact with the prisoners in the Women's Center on Thursdays from 6:30 pm-8 pm, Saturdays from 9:30 am-11 am and 6:30 pm-8
pm, and Sundays from 9:30 am-11 am. Additionally, the inmates in the CRA and Dorm 2 can be visited on Sundays from 12:30 pm-2 pm and Mondays from 6:30 pm-8 pm.
Maine Correctional Center Mail and Visitation Rules
All incoming mail must have a name and a return address as well. Apart from this, cash is not to be sent to the prisoners.
Apart from dressing appropriately, there are also other rules to be kept in mind while visiting the facility. All visitors are expected to be at the premises fifteen minutes before the appointment with a state or federally issued photo ID. All the visitors will be subjected to checks, and severe action will be taken if the visitor is found to have contraband upon them.
It is further worthy to mention that once you leave the visiting room for any reason, you will not be permitted to reenter. Also, no item will be permitted in the visiting room. Keep in mind that once your visit has started, no other visitor will be permitted inside.
Needless to say, loud and profane noises are to be avoided at all costs. The visitors and prisoners are also expected to not visit other prisoners or their visitors or move around during the visitation. The prisoners are expected to remain seated until the visitors leave the room.
