Mid-State Correctional Facility New Jersey History

A medium-security facility, Mid-State Correctional Facility opened in May 1982. Since it is located on the federal government property, NJDOC signed a leasing agreement with the former which required unique operating procedures to be followed. In compliance with this agreement and the guidelines established by it, programs were developed for the inmates to participate in. As a result, there are no programs which involve community activities, work release or furloughs. Work is assigned to the inmates as per the leasing agreement guidelines.

The State of New Jersey was given the ownership rights of the Mid-State Correctional Facility in August 2004. The facility reopened in 2017 after being closed for about three years starting 2014.
