Newton County Correctional Center opened in 1995 as a privately-owned prison. Initially, Bobby Ross Group managed the facility. Later the Correctional Services Corporation managed it. After the GEO Group managed it. Finally, the Community Educational Centers managed it. After the prison was no longer a private prison and it is presently managed by the County Sheriff’s office.
When it was a private prison the facility housed inmates from Missouri, Hawaii, and Oklahoma. The prison became a county prison once these inmates were shifted out.

Newton County Correctional Center Inmate Programs
Newton County Correctional Center houses only inmates awaiting trial or have been given sentences of less than two years. That is why this center does not have any inmate programs.
Newton County Correctional Center Visiting Hours
Newton County Correctional Center allows visitation on all days of the week. However, the timing changes. On weekdays the visiting hours are between 7:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. But on weekends the visiting hours are between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Newton County Correctional Center Mail and Visitation Rules
Inmates of Newton County Correctional Center are allowed to receive mail. But the prison does have a list of items that you should not send to the inmate.
The items on this list are glitter, confetti, plastic, metal, gang-related items, perfumes, strings, lipstick/chapstick/Lip Gloss, stamps, envelopes, pens, writing paper, music cards, pencils, ribbons, Polaroids. You can send photos to the prison but the maximum size is 5X7 inches.
You can send magazines, books, and newspapers to the inmate. There is, however, one condition. The items must come to the prison straight from the publisher and/or bookstore. Also, the book must be paperback and in new condition. The prison does not allow books that are hardcore and not new. In case the book received is in hardcore or old the prison will send it back to the sender.
Visitation is a privilege in this prison and should not be considered as a right. The prison allows visitors from all age groups. But if the visitor is below the age of 18, then they must have a legal guardian with them when they visit. All visitors must carry identity proofs with them when they visit. These identity proofs can be Identification cards provided by the state, their American passport or their driving license. When visiting the only thing that you are allowed to take is your Id proof. In case you came by car you can take your car keys with you.
Visitation is through videos. The service is provided by Securus Technologies. At the moment the inmates of this prison do not have contact visitation privileges.
