North Fork Correctional Center History
The facility was built at a cost of USD37 million. In the year 2001, the facility was housing 1440 inmates and 270 staff members.
The prison housed around 1,000 prisoners from the WI state until August 2003, when the state ended the contract because of some dispute. As a result, the inmates were moved to CCA's Diamondback Correctional Facility, which was closed subsequently.
In the year 2007, Richard Bice became the Chief of Security. October 2011 saw a riot breaking out between the inmates where 46 of the inmates were hurt and sent to hospitals.
CCA closed the institution in the year 2015 and moved its over 2000 inmates back to CA. In the year 2016, Oklahoma signed a deal with Corrections Corporation of America and an agreement was made for an 18-month lease at no cost. The prisoners were subsequently returned under state management.
