Robinson Correctional Institution Connecticut History
The facility was opened in 1985 and has a capacity of over 880. This institution comes under the Connecticut Department of Correction. It is a medium-security and a level 3 facility. The facility is named after the late warden, Carl Robinson who served as the first African American warden in Connecticut.
One of the highlights of the facility is that it was a scene of two escapes. In 1990, about 400 inmates set fire to the mess and gymnasium thereby initiating an extensive prison riot. Again in 1994, a riot was reported. The riot in 1194 led to two inmate’s death and 35 injuries. Even correctional officers were injured in the process. Overcrowding was identified as a factor contributing to these riots.

Robinson Correctional Institution, Connecticut mail and visitation rules
There is no limit to the number of letters an inmate can send or receive. No letters can be sent to victims or other inmates. Photos are also allowed to be sent on mail. You can also send books, newspapers, and magazines to inmates, but these need to be directly ordered from Amazon and sent through amazon. Money can be sent to inmates by walk-in, through the internet or can also be done through phone and email with the help of service providers like JPAY. Inmates may also place you on their calling list. It is important to note that these calls may be monitored so please be wary of exchanging sensitive information or information that may be perceived as a threat.
In order to visit an inmate, you first need to fill out an application form Connecticut Inmate Visitors Application. All visitors below 16 need to be accompanied by a legal guardian. You will be subjected to either a pat search or a metal detector search and you are required to carry a Photo ID. Formal Dress Code and Attire are to be followed.
If you are allowed to do a contact visit, you can sit at a table and talk to the inmate. In non-contact visitation, there will be a glass partition. All visitation places are smoke-free so tobacco products are not allowed. Make sure not to carry them during your visit. For contact visits, up to three visitors are allowed at a time and for non-contact visits, only two visitors are allowed at a time.
