Rush City is a state prison in the state of Minnesota. It is exclusively for male adult prisoners with a capacity to house 1000 inmates. Operated by the state’s Department of Corrections, this facility was opened in February 2000. Categorized as a Level-4 security correctional facility, it is secured by a triple razor wire fence and electronic surveillance.
Constructed at an approximate cost of $90 million, the prison stands out as the largest single structure in the county of Chisago, Minnesota. Also referred to as a penitentiary or detention center like other correctional facilities, here too inmates are confined and denied a variety of freedoms under the authority of the state.
Rush City Correctional Facility Inmate Programs
There are numerous educational and vocational training programs on offer here. They give ample opportunities to those willing to mend their life for the better once their prison term ends. Rush City Correctional Facility Visiting Hours
Relatives, friends and the general population can visit inmates between Thursday and Sunday from 11:30 am to 8:30 pm. Registrations need to be done in advance through an application form which can be downloaded from the Department of Corrections official website. Visits are allowed for only 1 to 2 hours during the week and 1 hour on weekends. Registration desk where applications need to be submitted for a visit closes at 7 p.m.
To visit an offender in a housing, kindly note the only teleconference is allowed on weekends at the specified time of 11:30 am, 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm for a maximum duration of half-hour. To fix an appointment call 320-358-0400 on Fridays between 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
No visit is allowed on state holidays such New Year, Martin Luther King Jr Day, President’s Day, Independence Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Veteran Day, Christmas and Thanksgiving Day.

Rush City Correctional Facility Visitation Rules
All visitors must dress properly in traditional attire. Visiting staff has the right to refuse entry to anyone not dressed according to the dress code set. Pockets must be emptied of all items and secured in a locker provided or left in the car. Any electronic items such as watches and fit bits are also banned. Video visits are allowed at this facility only for those on the approved list of the inmate. All video visits are recorded.
Sending Mail to an Inmate
There are strict guidelines for mail an inmate can receive or send. Only traditional postcards or letters are allowed. They must not have any stickers or glitter pasted on them. All mails must be written only on unstamped, white postcards no larger than 4 inches by 6 inches. Only pencils or blue or black ink should be used for writing emails. Any mail between current inmates is prohibited.
