Santiam Correctional Institution is a minimum-security correctional facility located in Salem in Oregon. A look at the Santiam Correctional Institution history shows that the prison was initially an annex to the Oregon State Hospital. It was constructed in the year 1946. It was used to house mental health patients. Fairview Home took over this building and converted it into Fredric Prigg Cottage in 1960.
In 1970, the building became a pre-release center for Oregon prison. It was in 1990 that the building officially became the Santiam Correctional Institution. The Santiam Correctional Institution mail and visitation rules are common for all prisons in the state of Oregon. All mail sent would be opened in the presence of the inmate.
