The Washington State Department of Corrections (WADOC), created in 1981, is responsible for administering adult corrections programs for the State of Washington. Its organizational structure includes 6 divisions, namely, Prisons, Community Corrections, Administrative Services, Health Services, Offender Change, and Executive Policy. One of the large all-male prisons of WADOC, housing 1936 inmates, is the Stafford Creek Correction Center (SCCC).

Stafford Creek Corrections Center Inmate Programs

  • Sustainability in Prisons Project (SPP) – In collaboration with the Evergreen State College, the Stafford Creek Correction Centre is a committed champion of the SPP program. It engages inmates to participate in the activity of gardening and helping in restoring protected wetlands by raising seedlings in prison greenhouses. Currently, Stafford Creek hosts two SPP nurseries, 1st is a prairie nursery, first of its kind introduced in the State, and 2nd is a surplus tilapia facility converted to grow pre-vegetated mats of wetland plant species.
  • Academic & Partnership Programs – Adult basic educational courses, drywall, bookkeeping, roofing and siding, certification training in technical design, and welding.
  • Research-based Programs – Stress and Anger management courses, and substance abuse treatment.
  • Work & Vocational Programs – chair and metal shop provided as correctional programs for offenders.

Stafford Creek Corrections Center Visiting hours 

There are 7 housing units in Stafford Creek:

  • H units (H-1, H-2, H-3, H-4, H-5, H-6) - minimum custody units.
  • G units (GA, GB, GC, GD) - medium custody units.
  • The Intensive Management Unit (IMU) - maximum custody units.

Visitors should know the inmate’s unit location to visit which can be found using the Stafford Creek Correction Center inmate locator. To search for an incarcerated individual, you will require to know their Department of Corrections (DOC) number. The DOC is a 6-digit identification number assigned to each inmate. In case you are unaware of which facility an inmate is shifted to and know nothing but their First and Last name, you can check GoLookUp which is an online service updated to provide any inmates information in the whole of the United States.

The Stafford Creek Correction Center visiting hours, for both H and G living units, are 11.00 am-8.00 pm. You can visit any day from Monday through Friday with open visits allowed only on Fridays and Mondays. Visits on Saturdays and Sundays are designated according to housing units for which you can check the visit schedule.

Offenders assigned to the IMU or the Segregation units may be eligible to receive no-contact visits unless they are on Management Level 1, in Pre-hearing Confinement, or on Disciplinary Segregation status. Segregation or IMU unit inmate’s in Management Level (ML) 2, 3, and 4 are allowed visitors on Fridays from 5.00 pm-8.00 pm and on Saturdays from 12.00 pm-3.00 pm. ML2 is allowed 1 hour per week, ML3 is allowed 2 hours per week, and ML4 is allowed 3 hours per week. Visitors coming on the wrong day or time, or unplanned and uninformed visits will not be allowed.

The Stafford Creek Correction Center mail and visitation rules apply to those who have submitted a visitor’s application, approved and added to the prisoner’s visitor list. Visitors may arrive at the Center 15 minutes before visitation hours.

  • Search permission – To be signed before entering the facility. Allows authorities to perform pat, vehicle, personal property, and/or canine searches.
  • Vehicle keys – To be secured in Public access lockers free of cost.
  • Money – No cash or plastic money is allowed within the facility and hence, Debitek cards are provided to the visitors to purchase from the vending machines.
  • ID – Visitors, 18 years and above, must provide valid identification with a current photo.
  • Medicines – Medication or medical equipment required will be permitted only on providing proof of prescription or medically authorized need.

  • Accessories – Visitors are allowed to carry a small comb or brush, reading glasses, and non-reflective sunglasses if the facility allows outdoor visits.
  • Clothing – Should be conservative in nature and following the set guidelines. The Visiting Sergeant/Shift Commander/Designee will hold the final approval of the visitors’ clothing. Clothing resembling that of a state-issued offender or Department uniform is not allowed.
  • Infants and Toddlers – Items stored in clear plastic bottles or containers are allowed along with a fixed quantity of diapers, bibs, pacifiers, blankets, or baby wipes that will be required during the visit. Nursing mothers may be asked to relocate, while nursing, to either another room identified by the facilities employees or, may be asked to nurse in the visiting area modestly.
  • Service animals – The service animal accompanying visitors will be permitted within the facility only if they meet the requirements mentioned under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Owners are responsible for feeding and cleaning up any waste created by the animal, and to make sure the animal is on a leash at all times. No interaction should occur between the animal and other visitors or inmates.
  • Decorum - There will be no tolerance for disrespectful or inappropriate behavior. Any form of criminal activity, possession or consumption of alcohol or drugs, etc., will not be permitted during visiting hours. Brief physical contact will only be permitted before and at the end of a visit and any hand-holding during the visit will be allowed only if it is within view. Exchange of conversations between the visitors and the inmates must be pleasant and quiet.
