Ventress Correctional Facility was established in the month of August 1990 under the Alabama Department of Corrections. The purpose of the facility was to provide a place for convicts to rid of their addictions and work on rehabilitation. The Ventress Correctional Facility worked extensively in providing its inmates with counseling and workshops on drug abuse, alcohol addiction. The facility was at the time, the first such initiative by the Department of Correction in Alabama, to dedicate a facility with the mission of drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
