Wallens Ridge State Prison Information

The Wallens Ridge State Prison opened in April 1999 and is a part of the Virginia Department of Corrections. The prison is a level 5 prison, meaning it is super-maximum security or supermax penitentiary located in Big Stone Gap Virginia. It restricts inmates from seeing family and community members. The prison also came into limelight in 2014 when a corrections officer was arrested for selling drugs to an undercover officer.
