Walpole State Prison Information
The Walpole State Prison was started in 1956. It is a maximum security prison that houses only adult male inmates. The prison was earlier known as Walpole State Prison, it is now known as Cedar Junction prison or the Massachusetts Correctional Institution – Cedar Junction. MCI Cedar Junction from 2009 is serving as a reception center that receives all male prisoners who stay here until they are assigned to some other prison in the state.

Number of Inmates
The formerly Walpole State Prison, now known as MCI-Cedar Junction holds prisoners for up to 16 weeks after which they are assigned to another prison or may continue at Cedar Junction. Those criminals who are considered in need of discipline are sent to the Department Disciplinary Unit. The prison has an A block for general population that has three units A-1, A-2, and A-3. There are also eight other general population housing units numbered from B1 to B8. There are also the Department Disciplinary Unit and the Behavioral Unit.
The prison capacity is 646. The number of inmates as of January 2019 was 686.
Visitation hours for all inmates who are part of the general population is on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The timings are from 1: 00 pm to 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm. While inmates of A1 to A3 units are eligible for contact visits, those in B block can have only non-contact visits.
Only those whose names are previously added to the visitor listing form can fill in the visitor application form and get to meet an inmate.

MCI-Cedar is a part of the correctional facilities under the Massachusetts Department of Correction. The Department is headed by the Commissioner Carol Mici.
The MCI-Cedar State Prison is headed by the Superintendent, who is the warden of the prison and is responsible for its operations. Michael Rodrigues is the acting superintendent of the prison.
Institution Programs Offered in the Prison
MCI Cedar State Prison has academic and other programs for its inmates.
The Academic Programs that the prison offers are Adult Basic Education, Pre-GED and GED prep courses, Language Education, College Education, and Special Education.
There are many other programs that the prison offers inmate. This includes Work Training Programs that are vocational in nature. Programs in automotive, barber, construction, horticulture, cooking, computer skills, welding, and engine repair are offered for inmates. There are religious and recreational programs for inmates. Self-improvement programs, cognitive and behavioral program, substance abuse program, and sex offender programs are also available at the prison.
MassCor conducts manufacturing operations in the prison, where the inmates can prepare security plates and are paid a wage for it. There are also re-entry programs to help inmates prepare for life after release.
