Elmira is a city located in Chemung County in New York - United States. The City of Elmira is located in the south-central part of the County. The Elmira Town surrounds the city on three sides. It is found in the south of New York a little away from north of the Pennsylvania state line.

After the American Revolutionary War ended, the new United States and the Iroquois signed a treaty at Elmira in 1791 with an aim to sort territorial disputes there. Legend states that Elmira got its name from Major General Matthew Carpenter's daughter.
