How to Get a Birth Certificate in New Mexico?

If you are looking to obtain our birth certificate in case you have lost your original copy or if you just need another copy for safekeeping, you can easily apply for it. Each state in the United States of America has a public record of all the birth records and their own rules apply when it concerns obtaining a copy. In the state of New Mexico, you will find that you can obtain your birth certificate from the Vital Records Office. The state of New Mexico’s Vital Records have a restricted-access to birth records and these documents are strictly issued only to immediate family members or individuals who can prove their tangible legal interest.

There are a couple of ways you could opt for to obtain your New Mexico Birth Certificate and they are listed below;

1. Requesting for your New Mexico Birth Certificate online

It is one of the more preferred methods in this day and age, and it is quite a simple process. You can log on to the website VitalChek.com which is essentially partnered with the New Mexico Department of Health that gives free access to public records.

After you log onto the website, you will have an option of starting your order, which will direct you to the online order form, where you have to fill up the information, such as “

who the birth certificate is being ordered for, the name of the state that you were born in, which is New Mexico, the city that you were born in and your date of birth. You will also have to give details like your father’s full name(if it exists in the record) and your mother’s full maiden name.

Once you’re done with filling out all the information required, you will be directed to the payment portal, where you will need to fill in your credit card information and pay a fee to obtain your New Mexico Birth Certificate. The Website charges $26 along with additional charges to ship your online order.

2. Obtaining a New Mexico birth certificate in person

If you want to directly obtain your birth certificate, you can go to the Albuquerque Stanford Public Health office or Santa Fe State office, where you will be provided assistance from a clerk. You will be given a form to fill out in the office or you can get one printed at home, filled out and brought to the office. A government-issued photo ID will be required to access your New Mexico Birth Certificate in order to verify your identity. Then you will need to pay a $10 fee to obtain your birth certificate.

3. Applying for your Birth Certificate in the State of New Mexico by mail

You will need to download and print out the form that orders for a new birth certificate from the website VitalChek.com. You have the option of printing the form either in Spanish or in English and filling out the form. Or you could simply write a letter with all the information required, such as;

  1. i) The name of the person on the birth certificate.
  2. ii) The city that you were born in,
  3. ii) The Date of your birth,

iii) Your mother’s maiden name and your father’s full name (if it was included in the initial record)

  1. iv) What your relationship is to the person on the certificate,
  2. v) Why you need the birth certificate,
  3. vi) Your full residential address and you can end the letter with your signature and name.

After writing the letter you need to write a cheque or money order that is addressed to the New Mexico Vital Records as the office does not accept cash when it is mailed to them.
