Texas court records can be accessed by almost anyone who is wishing to obtain public records and court records for their own purpose. The Texas Public Information Act specifies that all legal government documents are allowed to be easily accessed by the public. Texas state court records also have the provision of finding out the particulars of a case from the names of the people who were involved in the trial. Currently, Texas court records hold information about cases from January 1, 1957, onward. To find out the details of a case from the name, you will have to filter the following options:
- Whether the case was criminal or civil
- The years where the case was carried out. For example, if you know that a particular case was ongoing between 1960 and 1970 but do not know the exact dates, then you can filter your search between these two years and narrow the time-span of your search considerably.
- The name of the person involved in the case.

If you want to search for case records offline, then you will have to go to the court where the case was originally conducted, and file a request in the office of the clerk. However, you may not get access to the case files if the records of the trial proceedings have been sealed off from the public. In addition, you will only be able to find records of cases that are completed, not the ones which are still ongoing in the court.
