Massillon Ohio Overview and Crime Rate Statistics
This is a city in the Stark County located in the US state of Ohio. This city is located approximately 8 miles west of Canton, 50 miles south of Cleveland, and 20 miles south of Akron. The city was incorporated in the year 1868, and it is the second largest incorporated area within the Canton-Massilon metropolitan area.
Originally this settlement was founded in 1812 by Thomas Rotch and was named Kendal. A while later on the 6th of December 1826, James Duncan from New Hampshire first settled in Kendal and recorded the plot for the town of Massilon. It was incorporated in as a city in 1868 when the population of the village of Massilon reached 5000.
According to the United States census bureau, the total area of this city was 18.76 square miles out of which 18.58 square miles are made up of land and 0.18 square miles is made up of water.

The census of 2010 stated that the total population of Massilon was 32,149 people who were divided into 13,140 households, and 13140 families that reside in the city. The density of people here was 1,730 inhabitants per square mile. There are a total of 14,497 housing units located here which are making up a density of about 780 units per square mile.
Most of the population is primarily located in the western half that is the Perry township while a portion of the population extends towards the north and have settled down in Jackson Township, there are also a few people that live towards the west in Tuscarawas Township, and to the south that is Bethlehem Township.
The racial makeup of this city is 87.4% white, 8.8% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.5% who belong to other races, and finally 2.6% that are two or more races. The number of Hispanic or Latinos of any race here make up 2% of the population.
Of the total households 29.6% had children that were under the age of 18 living with them, 42.9% were married couples that lived together, 14.9% were female only households that did not have a husband present, 5.1% was male-only households that did not have a wife present, and 37.1% were non families. 31.1% of the total number of households were nonfamilies that were made up of individuals, and 13% were individuals that lived alone and were older than the age of 65 years.
The average size of a household here was 2.37, and the size of a family was 2.95. The median age here in the city was 40.1 years and the gender make up here was 48.5% males and 51.5% female.

When compared to the cities that have a similar population as that of Massillon it was found that the crime rate here is slightly higher than the average and hence it stands out as a dangerous city to live in.
