A marriage where you do not have the ability to be yourself and are continuously subject to endless emotional and mental torture from your spouse. In addition, one of the major signs of a toxic marriage is that your home, which should be a refuge to you, becomes a place you dread going back to every night.

One of the biggest signs of a toxic person is that they do not understand that the other person may want to have a life that extends beyond them- in fact, they do not seem to understand why a person would want a life beyond them. If you have noticed a continuing pattern of controlling

behavior from your partner and the resultant fights and arguments that occur, you may be in a toxic marriage.

How to Leave a Toxic Marriage

Leaving toxic people behind is not an easy task. They will try every method that they can, in order to

force you into staying. However, if you do make up your mind to leave them, you will be destroyed off all your self- worth, confidence, and any sense of being. You will be left a wreck, and you will have to find every way in the book to bring yourself up again. There are some glaring points which point towards the ending of a toxic marriage, signaling to you that you should leave. These points include the following:

  • Physically hurting you or your children
  • Being manipulative towards your children, and hindering their progression into becoming well-rounded adults.
  • You and your spouse are unwilling to change the pattern of negativity, distrust, manipulation, and toxicity that you are embroiled into.

Once you have made the decision to end things with your partner, you may start searching for ways on how to

leave a toxic marriage. The best way to tackle this situation head-on is to talk to your spouse and tell them about your decision. If your spouse truly loves you, they may ask themselves, “is my marriage toxic?”

and try to better themselves for you, or file for a mutual divorce. However, if they are manipulating or coercing you into staying, it is best to take the help of a lawyer and divorce them by legal means.
