How to capture an entire screen on macOS

  • Click on the icon icon in the onscreen controls to capture an entire screen. When you do so, the pointer will change to the camera macos camera icon icon

The following shortcuts work well on macOS Mojave, but you don't need macOS Mojave to use them:

How to markup, share, and save a screenshot on macOS

If you want to markup, share, or save a screenshot of any kind on macOS, this is how to do it:

Once you take a screenshot of any kind, a thumbnail of the screenshot will briefly appear in the lower-right corner of your screen.

swipe the thumbnail to the right or take no actions to automatically save the screenshot.

To open the screenshot, click on the thumbnail. Then, you will be able to edit the screenshot by using the markup tools that appear in the toolbar. You can also click on the icon icon to share it.

To move the screenshot to another location, like an email, drag the thumbnail.

For additional options, control-click the thumbnail. The additional options will allow you to delete the screenshot, change the save location, email the screenshot, etc.
