10 Tips For A Healthy Body
Changing your life often starts with changing your body. After all, our body may be directed by our mind but it is a machine that needs to be looked after to ensure high performance. Check out these top ten tips for a strong and healthy body.
Tip 1: Hydrate
Keep your body hydrated and prefer water over sugary or caffeinated drinks. Soft drinks, caffeinated drinks, electrolyte-loaded sports drinks, and soda are a source of unnecessary calories and are just plain unhealthy. Fresh fruit or vegetable juices are a great source of hydration with added nutritional benefits. Especially after a workout, make sure you are reaching for the right form of hydration.
Tip 2: Substitute snacks
Satisfy your sweet tooth with fruit or berries instead of cookies or cake. If you are prone to savory snacks instead, go for nuts or sliced carrots dipped in hummus.
Tip 3: Focus on good carbohydrates
Many diets are planned around not eating carbohydrates and this results in a notion that carbohydrates are bad. Good carbohydrates include whole wheat breads and pastas, brown rice, quinoa, potatoes, and legumes and are an essential part of a healthy diet. Bad carbohydrates like cake, candy, energy drinks, and sweetened beverages should be consumed in moderation.
Tip 4: Exercise
Daily exercise builds muscle, improves endurance, promotes cardiovascular health, improves bone density, and the list goes on. Everybody’s fitness level is different. Start with what you are capable of and build up to more difficult workout levels. The important thing is that the exercise is challenging and raises your heart rate. Even otherwise, stay active by taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or taking a short walk in your lunch hour. We live sedentary lives so these little bursts of activity all add up.
Tip 5: Use sunscreen
Make the application of sunscreen a daily habit to protect skin from sun damage as a result of ultraviolet rays, prevent premature aging, and lower the risk of skin cancer. Wearing sunscreen is a preventative health measure rather than merely a skincare tip.
Tip 6: Opt for healthy fast food
If you do have a meal in a fast food restaurant, select a healthier alternative. Get a large salad with the dressing on the side. Avoid processed meats, dairy, and fried foods. Remember, these foods are not made with nutrition in mind, they are made to taste good. Therefore, they can wreak havoc on your body in the long run.
Tip 7: Don’t skip breakfast
After sleeping for 8 hours, your body’s blood sugar is naturally low and has been using its sugar reserves to fuel itself at night. Getting a good breakfast boosts metabolism and replenishes fuel reserves. Skipping breakfast tends to result in overeating during the day.
Tip 8: Sleep
Sleep is how the body rejuvenates. It contributes to bone health, muscle and tissue repair, immune system health, heart health, and a healthy weight. Excess consumption of caffeine can get in the way of good sleep habits.
Tip 9: Stretch
When you wake up, stretch your body within a few minutes or after your workout. Stretching in the morning relieves muscle tightness built up over the night and increases flexibility. If you work out, stretching before exercising reduces the risk of injury.
Tip 10: Take time to relax
Give yourself a break and do something you love. Stress can cause damage to the body in innumerable ways sometimes resulting in chronic health problems. By taking regular breaks from your busy schedule, you can improve productivity as well as maintain a healthy body.
